About Course

This course introduces students to AutoCAD, the industry-standard software for 2D drafting and technical drawing. Students will learn to create precise, professional drawings used for manufacturing documentation, tooling layouts, and fixture design, with an emphasis on the drafting standards used in machining and manufacturing environments.

What Will You Learn?

  • Students will be able to independently create and interpret 2D & 3D technical drawings, apply proper dimensioning and drafting standards, and produce documentation ready for shop floor use.

Course Content

Drawing setup: units, layers, templates, and line types

Precision drawing tools: object snaps, coordinate systems, and construction lines

2D geometry creation and editing (lines, arcs, circles, polylines, fillets, trim/extend)

Dimensioning and annotation standards

Blocks, attributes, and reusable drawing components

Layout and plotting: model space vs. paper space, viewports, title blocks

Basic GD&T annotation

Exporting drawings for shop floor use (PDF, DXF)
